Curriculum Enrichment

At Killisick Junior School, we believe that enriching our curriculum is essential to fostering a love of learning and ensuring the holistic development of our pupils. Our commitment to curriculum enrichment is evident through a variety of initiatives and programs designed to inspire, challenge, and engage every child beyond the standard curriculum.

Extracurricular Clubs and Activities

We offer a diverse range of extracurricular clubs and activities that cater to the varied interests of our pupils. These include:

  • Sports Clubs: Such as handball, dodgeball, and football, which promote physical health and teamwork.

  • Arts and Crafts: Encouraging creativity and self-expression through various artistic mediums.

  • Music Programs: Including choir and guitar club, allowing pupils to explore their musical talents.

These clubs are led by dedicated staff members and provide opportunities for pupils to develop new skills, build confidence, and form lasting friendships.

Owl Enrichment Programme

In addition to our after-school clubs, we have implemented the Owl Enrichment Programme every Friday afternoon during school hours. This initiative offers pupils the chance to participate in a variety of activities such as dance, choir, crafts, and archery. The programme is designed to broaden horizons, encourage exploration of new interests, and enhance personal development.

Community Engagement and Leadership Opportunities

We place a strong emphasis on community involvement and leadership. Our pupils engage in fundraising initiatives for local charities, fostering a sense of responsibility and empathy. Leadership roles within the school, including positions like sports leaders, well-being warriors, digital leaders, and members of the school parliament, empower pupils to take initiative and develop essential leadership skills.

Curriculum Enhancement through External Partnerships

We collaborate with organizations such as Positively Empowered Kids Community Interest Company to implement initiatives like the Youth Voice in Action programme. This allows pupils to voice their ideas for school and community improvement, promoting active citizenship and engagement.

Recognition and Continuous Improvement

Our dedication to curriculum enrichment has been recognized by Ofsted, noting that pupils benefit from a range of well-planned trips and visits that enhance the curriculum. We continually seek to improve and expand our enrichment offerings, ensuring that every pupil has access to experiences that support their academic and personal growth.

At Killisick Junior School, curriculum enrichment is not just an addition to our educational approach; it is integral to our mission of nurturing well-rounded, confident, and compassionate individuals prepared for the future.
