Homework

Killisick Junior School's approach to home learning is grounded in research-backed strategies to consolidate learning and develop fluency in key areas. The three core components of our home learning policy are:

Daily Reading (at least 15 minutes)

Extensive research highlights the critical importance of regular, sustained reading for children's academic and cognitive development. Daily reading not only improves fluency and comprehension, but also expands vocabulary and general knowledge. Providing children with a dedicated home reading time is a highly effective way to foster a love of reading.

Daily Times Tables Practise (at least 15 minutes on TTRS)

Developing fluency in multiplication facts is essential for children's mathematical progress. Online platforms like Times Tables Rock Stars provide an engaging, gamified way for children to practise and master their times tables. Consistent, short bursts of practise are proven to be more effective than occasional, lengthy sessions.

Weekly Curriculum Consolidation (at least 15 minutes on Learning by Questions)

The use of adaptive, formative assessment tools like Learning by Questions allows children to reinforce and deepen their understanding of key concepts covered in class. By targeting specific areas for consolidation, this approach helps to identify and address any gaps or misconceptions, ultimately improving long-term learning.
